Forward Head Posture and Neck Pain

Chiropractors talk about the Sitting Epidemic

Many people today suffer with neck pain and upper back tension.  What many people do not know is that they may be suffering from the effects of forward head posture.  It was found that "for every inch of forward head posture, it can increase the weight of the head on the spine by an additional 10 pounds." (Kapandji, Physiology of the Joints, Volume 3)  In fact long term forward head posture may lead to "long-term muscle strain, disc herniation and pinched nerves." (Mayo Clinic Health Letter, March 2000)  The most common symptoms resulting from forward head posture are neck pain, mid-back tension, trigger points and headaches.  The causes of forward head posture range from whiplash injuries sustained during automobile accidents, repetitive stress due to poor posture while sitting at the computer and muscular weakness from inacitvety just to name a few.  At Ondracek Chiropractic Center we have helped many patients with these types of complaints.  If this sounds like you or someone you know please call our office to see if we can help you too!
